  • The Royal Ontario Museum is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Burgess Shale by the paleontologist Charles D. Walcott.

  • The HMS Beagle Project will be celebrating the bicentenary of Charles Darwin's birth by launching a sailing replica of HMS Beagle. An icon of scientific progress, she will circumnavigate the globe in Darwin's wake, crewed by aspiring scientists and researchers.

Nehru Center

The Nehru Centre is the brainchild of the late Rajni Patel and was conceived as a tribute to one of the greatest architects of modern India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He symbolised the idea of enlightened curiosity, scientific temper and secular values. Nehru Centre encompasses various departments like, Discovery of India, a permanent exposition, Nehru Planetarium, Culture Wing, Art Gallery, Library, Publication Wing, etc. The Centre's first achievement was to provide the city with a Planetarium in 1977. Over the years, this has grown into a centre for popularisation of astronomy and space science and for meeting of scientists and scholars for discussions and lectures on various astronomical themes & events. During the last 30 years the Planetarium has generated thirty-one astronomical presentations, which have been viewed by over 11 million astronomy lovers.
 
Nehru Planetarium, New Delhi

Nehru Planetarium, New Delhi, situated in the green surroundings of the Teen Murti House, better known as the official residence of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Conscious of the fact that an understanding of the spirit and method of science was crucial for children to become responsible citizens, Nehru liked every opportunity to be provided to them in this endeavor. In 1964, the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund was set up to promote his ideas and subsequently it undertook to build the Nehru Planetarium with its primary aim being the promotion of astronomy and space education.

It is the world's first such science news outlet concentrating specifically on student collaboration in a professional news environment. It also promotes professional best practice and answers a critical need where there is a gap for budding young journalists to report on science news within a virtual newsroom environment.
