  • The Royal Ontario Museum is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Burgess Shale by the paleontologist Charles D. Walcott.

  • The HMS Beagle Project will be celebrating the bicentenary of Charles Darwin's birth by launching a sailing replica of HMS Beagle. An icon of scientific progress, she will circumnavigate the globe in Darwin's wake, crewed by aspiring scientists and researchers.

Balkan Geophysical Society

Balkan Geophysical Society (BGS), as a non-profit organization of the Geophysical Societies of the following Balkan countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Romania and Turkey was established in 1993 (in 2002, the Association of Hungarian Geophysicists adhered as a full member to the BGS), in order to promote: ? peaceful research in basic and applied Geophysics, in the Member Countries; ? collaboration and mutual assistance between geophysicists from the BGS Member Countries; ? teaching of Geophysics in the Universities and postgraduate R & D activities in the Institutions and Universities; ? peace and friendship among peoples. Balkan Geophysical Society is the associated society to: IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences), EAGE (European Association of Geophysicists and Engineers), SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers).
