Chicago Botanic Garden

The mission of the Chicago Botanic Garden is to promote the enjoyment, understanding, and conservation of plants and the natural world. The 385-acre Garden, located in Glencoe, IL., features 23 display gardens and three native habitats, uniquely situated on nine islands surrounded by lakes. Founded in 1972, the Chicago Botanic Garden has become one of the foremost teaching gardens and offers a wide range of educational opportunities, from early childhood education through graduate-level programs. It is also home to a premier plant science and conservation research program through which scientists are furthering knowledge that addresses threats to endangered flora and the impacts of climate change on ecosystems. With the opening of a new 38,000 square-foot LEED Gold certified science center in 2009, the Garden demonstrates its ongoing commitment to conservation research and education.
