Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical SurveysThe Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Survey (DGGS) is the agency within Alaska's Department of Natural Resources that generates, analyzes and interprets data about the state's geologic resources and hazards. DGGS fulfills this mission through fieldwork and an ambitious program of resource evaluation, geological hazards identification, research, publication, and outreach. Our maps and inventories of mineral and energy resources on state land are used by government, private industry, scientists, educators and the public. This program emphasizes hands-on experience with spatial technology (GPS, GIS, and remote sensing imagery in a local landscape-landform context) in conjunction with traditional activities. Participants work directly with professional geologists and authentically emulate scientific activities at a novice level, using real data in a real-world setting.
